The exhibition's central theme is the body—its materiality, communication, and intimacy between two or more bodies, and its various perspectives on relationships. The “soulless” body, in this context, may be something that becomes an extension of human existence. Perhaps we have learned to live with it, or perhaps it has always been with us, just quietly waiting to be rediscovered and acknowledged as part of our being. It's like retrieving an almost forgotten and never-delivered love letter. Or perhaps we admire it too deeply to truly engage with it, acknowledging that our very existence might taint its purity.
Among other relationships, the human connection to rocks is precisely this impersonated relationship by us, like a taut wire that we play with at first, but whose razor-sharp edge can cut through human skin and flesh. The jagged, serrated edges of rocks can tear apart the human body in mere seconds. But why would they? Or rather, why would we do this to ourselves through them? This relationship is not an easy one; it has never been a continuous dialogue but instead a seemingly endless dynamic of active and passive forces. Yet, why do we, the active participants, so often suffer within this connection? A rock can be easily swallowed or collided with, and the result is the same: our own destruction.
Something continues to draw us closer to it—something we cannot escape because of our very humanity: the sense of another body, the folds of its absence. The rock becomes like an alien body, a tumor in us, a cold, unyielding “soulless” metaphor for abandoned, overgrown landscapes, the kind that humans repeatedly seek out, explore, conquer, and strive to connect with, becoming a part of them in the process.
We might also consider the seas and oceans, encompassing millions of stones and rocks. The untamable open water that penetrates us, our tiny bodies, unbridled and without any consciousness of us or our presence within it. And yet, we tame the water and place it under our control, so that within a sterile, constructed environment, it may serve our joy and well-being.
The objects, installations, and performances presented in the exhibition explore the intricate networks of intimacy and relationships, which are often one-sided. Within the exhibition space, we witness attempts to break through these barriers—hopeless pleas that, in their solitude, find a form of fulfillment.
