Open Call: Curator for the Nordic-Baltic Artists-in-Residence Program at SÍM Residency

Are you a visionary curator based in Iceland with a passion for art, science, and environmental activism? SÍM Residency invites you to lead our dynamic two-month residency program at Korpúlfsstaðir. This is a unique opportunity to shape an interdisciplinary exploration of one of the most pressing issues of our time: global warming and its impact on glacial ecosystems.

The Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture strengthens artistic and cultural cooperation in the Nordic region and Baltic states. The programme focuses on increasing the exchange of knowledge, contacts and interest in Nordic and Baltic art and culture. The Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme comprises three forms of funding: mobility funding, network funding and funding for artist residencies.

Position: Curator for the SÍM Residency Program

  • Duration:     The physical residency is planned for two months (February - March 2025).      The implementation of the project will start from July 2024. The work      position is free time scheduled and all activities, events or meetings can      be arranged by curator.
  • Stipend:     2,418 EUR
  • Location:     SÍM Residency Korpúlfsstaðir, Iceland
  • Funding:     Fully financed by the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Program - Support for Artist      Residencies

About the Program:

As the curator, you will spearhead a residency designed for seven cross-disciplinary artists and researchers from Nordic-Baltic countries. This program aims to foster collaboration between artists, scientists, and environmental activists, providing a platform to create impactful research projects that address global warming and its effects on glacial ecosystems.

Your Role:

  • Leadership:     Together with SÍM Residency director guide and support selected artists      and researchers in their creative and investigative processes:

- Assist to organize open call, and selection of the artists.

- Curate events as Artist Talks and one week project presentations/exhibition at SÍM Hlöðuloftið.

- Assist to organize studio visits with local artists, meetings with local museums, galleries and artist run spaces.

  • Collaboration:     Work closely with the SÍM Residency director and staff to ensure a smooth      and enriching residency experience.
  • Innovation:     Curate a program that merges art, science, and environmental activism,      encouraging participants to explore and innovate.
