REYKJAVÍK PIANOS

In February 2019 I went to Iceland to create an absurd instrument. A piano not capable of playing melodies but timbres only. I walked through whole Reykjavik and recorded always the same tone D’ from 88 different pianos all over town. The recording sites ranged from cafes, hotels, museums, churches, cinemas and schools to the private pianos of Icelandic musicians like Högni and Kjartan Sveinsson.

For the exhibition I connected the 88 different D’s to a digital piano and it was interesting to see people reacting to an instrument that is just not made for players but listeners.
