Light footprints of landscapes

Sunshine is essentially a scarce commodity for the inhabitants of Iceland for almost half of each year. The purpose of this month-long work was to accumulate as much sunshine as possible. August is one of the months when the sun is still plentiful, so I decided to capture it using cyanotype.

The result is a collection of 17 prints from 17 locations around the island. Each paper was exposed and developed at a unique place. Objects found at these locations were also used for exposure. The coordinates, along with time (t) and UV factor (UVf) data, are recorded.

Another part involved collecting clothing for upcycling. This clothing was acquired from a secondhand store in Reykjavik, and I then hand-embroidered inscriptions from informational signs that I also found during my journey around the island. Each piece of clothing features the coordinates of where the sign was located. Six out of the ten total pieces also include cyanotypes with photographs from the island.

The final part consists of flower prints gathered from the area surrounding the residence. These prints are a small detour and a reminder of summer, which is short on the island but full of sunshine, enabling plants to thrive.
