In 2018 I discovered novel dry pastels with which I did an animation film based on pastels on paper, all together I called this work “Dust”. Back then I explored spatial and color effects through monochromatic pastel paintings where an abstracted picture horizon divides the pages horizontally into an above and below.

For this residency, I decided to go back to these pastels and explore the colors and the notion of a picture horizon further. After trying out different ideas, I mainly became curious about applying pastels in layers of one color at a time. I thought, how many layers of color can I apply on top of each other and what kind of color spaces will this create?
This work is a starting point and not yet finished.
