Athena, Reykjavik
Relational activism , photographic installation
This work is the result of an activism in Reykjavik, outside the Ithaca house and on the statue of goddess Athena — which is also the name of the capitol of Greece. This performance was part of the global actions during the 17-18th of April against authoritarianism and police brutality in Greece. The installation makes a representation of the statue and the activism transferring the original space and time circumstance into the art space of a gallery. Through the appropriation of the statue’s neo-classical form, my work comments on the European circle of both values and cultural heritage, from ancient Athens, to the frontier world of Reykjavik and back to contemporary Greece.
