About the House

Recently I have been working on a personal project in relation to a place where I spent a lot of my early years- my grandparents’ house. A year before the sale of my grandparent’s house, I photographed its decline after my uncle Jimmy, who had been living in the house, passed away. This once lively but now derelict house is the common vessel for fading memories which are being lost as its occupants who knew it as a family home grow up and move away. The house was sold and subsequently destroyed by fire where the invisible materials in it's construction became visible. The remnants of expanding foam and fibreglass wool melted and dripped during the fire created forms reminiscent of ectoplasm in 19th century séance photography, hinting at the lingering spirits within the house.
